WELCOME TO SONS IN RETIREMENT
LAMORINDA SIR BRANCH 171

Welcome! You
have found Sons In Retirement (SIR), a non-profit public benefit
corporation for retired men that is tax exempt under IRC 501(c)(4) and
comparable California law. The main purpose of SIR is to provide opportunities to make new friends
and to participate in activities we were too busy to enjoy prior to
retirement. Having
fun and promoting fellowship are our only goals. We are not engaged in fundraising. You will not, for example, be asked to get up at 5:30 AM to
set up for a pancake breakfast to raise money for some cause.
Membership in Branch 171 is open to men retired from full-time occupation,
regardless of age, race, color or religion. There are no dues, fees or assessments. Member volunteers staff, administer and govern all Branch
activities. SIR supports no
outside cause or interest. We prohibit discussions of politics and
religion or the selling of anything to any member. The
only requirements to join SIR are that a man (1) be retired, or
semi-retired, (2) be able to attend the monthly luncheons, and (3) be
sponsored by an active member.
Branch 171 has monthly luncheon meetings where members renew old
friendships and form new ones. Speakers
are invited to address topical subjects of general interest. Branch 171 has a December Ladies Day Luncheon that is
recognized as a signature event throughout the community.
Wives, partners, and guests are invited to this festivity just as
they may participate in many of the offered social activities.
Branch 171 sponsors many activities such as golf, computers, pinochle,
investing, wine tasting, fishing, and bocce ball.
An extensive travel program is also available to all members and
their guests. Travel events
vary from one-day local excursions to longer trips exploring destinations
throughout the world. It is
great fun to fun to travel with people you know.
Our founders chose the rooster as the official SIR logo to represent the
freedom he displays around the barnyard. We have paid our dues to the business world and now is the
time for us to strut and crow a little - or perhaps a lot. Of all the creatures on earth, none express more independence
and dignity with sureness and aplomb than the rooster, whose majestic
presence is felt in every barnyard. When
he crows he can be heard for miles, not in a fainthearted crow, but with a
noise that calls attention to his exalted status.
